When you are free from thinking of ordinary things, your mind will be absorbed in God, in the formless state of divinity.

Spiritual practice should be followed constantly over a long period. In modern times, people are either lazy or unnecessarily busy.

How you all will change the work after I am gone. If I came back a hundred years from now, I just wonder if I would even recognize it.

It is easy to renounce the family and the world, but difficult to renounce the ego that is so firmly established and so willing to grow.

There is a magnet in your heart that will attract true friends. That magnet is unselfishness, thinking of others first; when you learn to live for others, they will live for you.

Evolution is the symbol of life, and there is visible evolution in the external world. There should also be inner evolution in every human being, from animality to rationality, and then to divinity.

The greatest romance is with the Infinite. You have no idea how beautiful life can be. When you suddenly find God everywhere, when He comes and talks to you and guides you, the romance of divine love has begun.

We favor those persons whose magnetism affects us harmoniously, who cool our system, internally invigorate our vitality, develop our natural love, and thus relieve us of our miseries and administer peace to us.

Reading spiritual books, hearing so many discourses, seeing so many monks and chanting many verses of the scriptures cannot give you spirituality and Self-realization. It only helps to show the way of spirituality.

The soul loves to meditate, for in contact with the Spirit lies its greatest joy. If, then you experience mental resistance during meditation, remember that reluctance to meditate comes from the ego; it doesn't belong to the soul.

Strengthen your mind and refuse to carry the burden of mental and moral weakness acquired in past years; burn them in the fires of your present divine resolutions and right activities. By this constructive attitude you will attain freedom.

Whatever I do, I do with the greatest love that I have in me. Try this, and you will see that you do not become fatigued at all. Love is one of the greatest stimulants to the will. Under the influence of love the will can do almost anything.

He who has realized oneness with God possesses all knowledge contained in Him. Knowing the Lord as Beginning and End of all beings and worlds, a true Brahmin has knowledge of the hereafter and of the workings of nature on this plane of existence.

The Four Ideas: the Word, Time, Space, and the Atom. The ensuing effect is the idea of particles— the innumerable atoms, pair a or anu. These four — the Word, Time, Space, and the Atom — are therefore one and the same, and substantially nothing but mere ideas.

If the teacher and student discuss spirituality on the eighth moon, it is bad for the teacher. If spiritual topics are discussed on the fourteenth moon, it is bad for the student. If it is discussed on the full moon or new moon, it is bad for both. If spiritual teachings are discussed on the first day after the full moon or new moon, that education is useless.

Those who look at the surface of the sea must behold the birth and death of the waves, but those who seek the depths of the ocean behold one indivisible mass of water. Similarly, those who acknowledge "life" and "death" are tossed by sorrow, while those who live in the illimitable superconsciousness behold and feel the One Ineffable Bliss.

Sri Yukteswar used to poke gentle fun at the commonly inadequate conceptions of renunciation."A beggar cannot renounce wealth," Master would say. "If a man laments: 'My business has failed; my wife has left me; I will renounce all and enter a monastery,' to what worldly sacrifice is he referring? He did not renounce wealth and love; they renounced him!"Saints like Gandhi, on the other hand, have made not only tangible material sacrifices, but also the more difficult renunciation of selfish motive and private goal, merging their inmost being in the stream of humanity as a whole.

Thought and God are one.

Contentment is the best policy in life.
